Troubleshooting electronics — small appliances

Kettles, toasters, hair dryers and lamps are the most common guests at a Repair Café. Unplugged, ask the owner the story, search the model, photograph each step. Test the cord, the switch, the thermal fuse (replace with the same rating, crimped) and the motor — and a qualified adult does the first plug-in.
